Leeroy New's Giant Shrooms Invade Eastwood City for the Holiday Season
Plus, enjoy some funky music by Diego Mapa.
(SPOT.ph) With Alert Level 2 now declared in Metro Manila, kids and kids-at-heart can freely go to malls—and surrounding open spaces—to make the most out of the holiday season. Eastwood City in Quezon City is making your visit a bit more colorful with giant lighted art sculptures handcrafted by famous Filipino artist Leeroy New. Festive Fungi, Merry Mycelium is a collection of larger-than-life mushrooms and fungi that are seven meters in height. They also light up in various colors to the tune of Diego Mapa's very own version of your Christmas carol favorites.
Inspired by fantasy and sci-fi elements, which New is known for, the art installation reimagines the natural and industry world vis-a-vis a public space that's been turned into a Christmas wonderland. Mapa's arrangement, in addition, is a modern interpretation of traditional Christmas songs and original composition called the Eastwood Suite. The mix by the film score composer infuses alternative rock, electronic music, and orchestra.
Here's what to see at the Eastwood Christmas lights and display for 2021:
Festive Fungi, Merry Mycelium joins other Christmas displays at Eastwood City, including the Magical Christmas Carousel Garden at the fourth level of Eastwood Mall, Neon Lights Display at the Eastwood Central Plaza, and a 40-foot christmas tree at the Eastwood Mall Open Park.
"We hope through this one-of-a-kind visual and audio spectacle, along with the many other Christmas attractions here in Eastwood City, we may bring our valued guests holiday cheers and genuine happiness as they spend time and reconnect with their loved ones this Holiday season. We take pride in having the creative imagination of Leeroy New come to life in Eastwood City. Our township joins other world cities where Leeroy New’s renowned public art installations are also on display," said Graham Coates, head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.
