The Mount Makiling Forest Reserve is an ASEAN Heritage Park that spans a total of 4,244 hectares. It is managed by the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, which is committed to promoting and strengthening conversation and sustainable development efforts in the reserve. Mount Makiling has several outdoor recreation spots, where people can appreciate nature and hopefully participate in maintaining its ecosystem. There's the Makiling Botanic Gardens, which is home to several endemic plants; Flatrocks, where you can walk along a path formed by large slabs of rocks; Mudsprings, which is a unique display of Makiling's volcanic history; and three peaks, which are worth the trek. The Mariang Makiling Trail, which is popular among hikers and bikers, is an eight-kilometer stretch that ends at Mount Makiling's Peak II. It goes through the eastern slopes of the mountain, particularly the Molawin-Dampalit Watershed Zone.
