(SPOT.ph) The ongoing pandemic, which started in the first quarter of 2020, has taken a toll on the Philippine tourism industry. Hotels and resorts had to close down, tourist destinations saw dwindling foot traffic, and restaurants had to make a lot of adjustments. But the sector is slowly picking back up as travelers are back—with a vengeance. Things are also looking up for 2022 as a number of hotels, resorts, and serviced residences are expected to open in the next 12 months. We round up a few establishments to keep on your travel radar!

Summit Hotel Naga

The seventh Summit Hotel property will soon open in Naga City, home to the miraculous image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist—the largest church in the Bicol Region and one of the oldest cathedrals in the Philippines. Summit Hotel Naga will have 60 guest rooms, which are a mix of 56 Deluxe Rooms and four Summit Suites that are named after the region’s cultural elements: Peñafrancia, Makusog, Magayon, and Voyadores. It will also feature a grand ballroom that can be partitioned into three event spaces, a meeting room, and iMac workstations. Apart from the business-related facilities, the hotel will also have an outdoor swimming pool, kiddie pool, a fitness center, and direct access to Robinsons Place Naga Mall.

lyf by Ascott is a new co-living and serviced residence concept designed for young travelers. They have so far opened properties in Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Fukuoka—with the largest outpost found in Singapore. By the last quarter of 2022, they’re expected to open lyf Cebu City, their first property in the Philippines. It will feature 180 rooms, ranging from a studio to a two-bedroom apartment. Like most lyf properties, it will be designed with bright-colored and youthful interiors.

Hotel Okura Manila at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City already had its soft opening on December 28, 2021, but it is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2022. Designed with a Japanese-inspired aesthetic, the hotel features an 18-meter-high atrium lobby surrounded by natural elements such as wood and stone complimented by a minimalist garden. Their Hinoku-Yu Rooms boasts hinoki (Japanese cypress) wooden bathtubs handcrafted by Japanese artisans from the mountainous Nagiso Town, separate areas for bathtub and rainfall shower, multimedia amenities, and a Nespresso machine. Of course, there's the high-tech Japanese bidet, which has buttons for most of your toilet needs.
