Here's Where You Can Binge-Watch Broadway Shows for Free
Over 300 titles are available.
(SPOT.ph) The world's biggest theater districts, Broadway and West End, went dark as COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe. The result, of course, was the suspension of a number of plays and musicals that were supposed to be seen by millions of theater-goers. The same was the case for Philippine theater. But days into the community quarantine imposed in Metro Manila (and later, all of Luzon), we can count on one constant when it comes to entertainment: online streaming. For theater enthusiasts, there's BroadwayHD—a New York-based on-demand streaming platform that has nearly 300 titles of live theater performances and theater-related documentaries. It has been around since 2015, but this is probably the perfect time to take advantage of its seven-day free trial.
While international magazine Travel + Leisure reported that BroadwayHD subscribers get access to famous titles like Cats, The King and I, Phantom of the Opera, and Kinky Boots, there's a limited selection for the Philippine audience. Not to worry, though: the lineup is enough for a whole week of Broadway binge-watching and sleepless nights (we're kidding, make sure to get enough sleep especially in this pandemic!). Available titles include Paula Vogel's Indecent, William Finn and James Lapine's Falsettos, Charles Wuorinen's Brokeback Mountain, Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers' Oklahoma!, Joe Masteroff's She Loves Me, and a lot of Shakespeare's plays.
For more information, visit BroadwayHD's website. Monthly subscription is at U.S. $8.99 (roughly P460).
