(SPOT.ph) When Hintayan ng Langit hit cinemas in October 2018 as part of the QCinema International Film Festival, it immediately tugged at viewers' heartstrings. It even bagged the Audience Choice Award, in addition to Eddie Garcia earning the Best Actor title. One month later, the movie got a nationwide screening; and in June 2019, a slot in Netflix. But before all these, Hintayan ng Langit was a one-act play staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Huseng Batute as one of the featured pieces for the Virgin Labfest in 2015. And on April 28, a digital playback of that staging is going live on YouTube at 3 p.m. It’s available online for one week.
Hintayan ng Langit follows the story of Lisang and Manolo, both played in live theater by real-life couple Edna Vida Froilan and Nonoy Froilan. The ex-lovers, who are now 60-somethings, are forced to be roommates in purgatory (a.k.a. heaven's waiting room, thus the title). It is written by Juan Miguel Severo and directed by Raffy Tejada.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has beefed up its digital library since the quarantine started. It now carries captured performances of the plays Batang Mujahideen and Mga Eksena sa Buhay ng Kontrabida, as well as the 2020 concert of the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
Hintayan ng Langit goes live on April 28, 3 p.m. at the CCP's YouTube channel. For more information, follow CCP on Facebook.
