(SPOT.ph) Doesn't it make perfect sense that Negros Occidental, also known as the "Sugar Bowl of the Philippines," is where you can find the best napoleones in the country, bar none? Bacolod, its capital, is known for this sugary, flaky pastry and it's widely available in the City of Smiles—but sadly, Metro Manila pales in comparison when it comes to napoleones options. One of the newer stores where you can hoard boxes of this mille-feuille is Leones Napoleones.

Here's a brief history of Leones Napoleones:
The Leones family's version of napoleones started gaining popularity in 1999 when they supplied the regional delicacy through Pendy's, a prominent and well-loved dining institution in Bacolod. In 2016, Pendy's decided to separate into two entities—Pendy’s and Mimi’s, and Leones supplied to both—and as the pandemic came along in 2020, Pendy's stopped operations. This sadly left the Leones family without their biggest business partner.
But as they say, when one door closes, a window opens. Pendy’s may have closed, but Leones’ legacy lives on as they started selling the pastry independently in 2021—and can even ship it to Manila! People who have visited and tasted the Negrense delicacy demanded it to be available in the Metro and so they birthed Leones Napoleones to heed their call.
Where to buy napoleones in Metro Manila: Leones Napoleones
Bacolodnons are understandably passionate about which brand(s) make the best napoleones in town—and some would vouch for that of Pendy's, i.e. the version Leones Napoleones now makes! If you're a fan of Pendy's napoleones, curious to see if it is the best, or simply craving for no-frills, no-fuss napoleones, Leones sells their signature Napoleones for P360/box of six.
They bake the pastry and have it flown to the Metro on the same day. The plane lands at 3 p.m. on Saturdays and depending on where you want it delivered, it can arrive before 9 p.m. on the same day. The napoleones arrive at your doorstep and thankfully aren't hardened (thus indicating it's not old stock and was properly stored!). You still get to relish its slightly crunchy base, the sweet and silky custard added in between the layers of the pastry, and the sugar-glazed top.
There's a flat rate of P175 for deliveries made within Metro Manila and a flat rate of P400 for those in Cavite and Rizal. To place an order, you can fill up Leones Napoleones' form.
