(SPOT.ph) Is there any better way to cope with the heat than by diving into a cup or cone of ice cream? We think not. Ice cream is a top-tier treat in that it’s versatile in the flavor department—pretty much any sweet ingredient makes for a great scoop—not to mention it’s as satisfying as a snack in the afternoon as it is after a heavy meal. When in BGC, there are a number of spots you can rely on for A+ ice cream and other ice cream-adjacent desserts, 10 of which we highlight in this list.

Farmacy

From the team behind Wildflour comes Farmacy, an ice cream shop that takes inspiration from the ice cream parlors and soda fountains of classic Americana. You’ll be spoiled for choice with their range of flavors (starts at P175/single scoop)—Coffee Almond Fudge, Guava Sorbet, Mint Choco Chip, Banana Salted Caramel, Jackfruit Cashew, and Stracciatella, just to name a few. But hey, you’re already here; might as well go all out with one or more of their sundaes (P375)—we’re talking the likes of the Banana Split (complete with four sauces, pineapple tidbits, peanuts, whipped cream, and Maraschino cherries), Dusty Road (a peanut-buttery chocolate wonderland of a dessert), and more.

Kiwami Food Hall

This Japanese food hall is home to a lot of great eats—smoky skewers, soulful bowls of ramen, and more—but it’s always worth saving room for their Hokkaido Soft Serve that’s light yet lush and full-on creamy on the tongue. This can be had simply in a lengua de gato cone (like Japan’s Cremia!) for P135, or in a cup with kuromitsu boba (P160), the said lengua de gato cone (P160), or a yuzu-strawberry compote (P160).

Kiwami is at L/GF C3 Bonifacio High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City.

Folks flock to St. Louis Café for their brunch fare and churros, but their ice cream game is plenty on point, too. You can browse their glass display case for available flavors—standouts include the Apple Pie, the rightfully tangy Passionfruit, and the decidedly decadent Peanut Butter & Nutella. On the more elaborate front are also sundaes and plated ice cream desserts; the Amalia’s Super Sundae (P380) with French Vanilla and Chocolate Noir ice cream plus a bevy of toppings, and the Eton Mess (P380) featuring their Wild Strawberry ice cream, are not to be missed.

St. Louis Café is at Unit C3-104 Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City.

Chocolate is the name of the game at Auro Chocolate Café—and no wonder, as they’re owned by their namesake Filipino bean-to-bar chocolate brand. As you can expect, the Soft-Serve Ice Cream (P150) is one that’ll satisfy the chocolate fan in your life; it’s made with Auro’s full-bodied, robust-tasting chocolate in a smooth, silky, ice-cold medium.

Auro Chocolate Café is at G/F One Maridien Tower, Bonifacio Global City.

Yup, the classic ice cream brand from Bohol is here in Manila—specifically, at a special stall in Burgos Park. It’s all about local flavors here; think Ube, Mango, Durian, Chocolate, and of course, Salted Honey (and more!), available by the scoop (P125) or 1.5-liter tub (P2,500). We suggest getting one or more of their palm-sized cookies (P155) to go with it, too.

Bohol Bee Farm’s stall is at Burgos Park, Forbes Town Road, Taguig.

Kurimu

This pandemic-born ice cream brand now has physical outposts where you can try—and buy—their signatures by the scoop, in a cup or cone. Imagine nostalgic ice cream flavors with Japanese ingredients and elements infused in; just some of their best-known variants are the Shoyu Caramel, where soy sauce’s savory pull evens out the sweetness of caramel; the Kinako Vanilla, a peanut butter-esque scoop of vanilla and roasted soybean powder; and fruity-meets-umami Miso Mascarpone with Passionfruit Almond Praline.

Kurimu’s BGC stalls are at Basement 1, MITSUKOSHI BGC, 8th Avenue, Taguig, Metro Manila; and Uptown Mall, 9th Avenue, Taguig.

The spirit of gelato shop Bar Dolci (formerly at Burgos Circle though this has sadly closed) lives on at dessert brand Café Dolci, which has a physical stall by the supermarket at MITSUKOSHI BGC. Like its predecessor, Café Dolci makes superb Italian gelato that’s rich but not overwhelmingly fatty or sweet. You can go traditional with flavors like the Premium Langhe Hazelnut and Auro Straciatella; for the more adventurous, it’s worth giving their Auro White Chocolate Wasabi variant a try (it works!).

Café Dolci is at B1 Mitsukoshi Fresh, MITSUKOSHI BGC, 8th Avenue, Taguig, Metro Manila; and Uptown Mall, 9th Avenue, Taguig.

a mano

Come for the handmade pasta and pizzas, stay for the soft-serve ice cream at Italian dining spot a mano, which also has a BGC location following its original spot in Rockwell. This isn’t just any soft-serve ice cream, but their Burrata Gelato Soft (P210/cup)—an oh-so-dreamy, light yet milk-forward number available with toppings (P50) like Honeycomb, Olive Oil and Sea Salt, and Balsamic Strawberries.

a mano’s BGC branch is at Unit LG22, G/F One Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City.

Hip yet laid-back Hong Kong café Elephant Grounds has more to them than great coffee. Don’t miss their ice cream, either. They’ve got flavors ranging from classic Western to Asian-inspired to all-out fun: Cookies n’ Cream, Toasted Rice, Acai Mixed Berry, Rocky Road, and more, available by the scoop (P150; additional P100 for an extra scoop and P20 for toppings).

Kiji Bakehouse

There’s more to this takeaway bakeshop than just what comes out of their oven. When it’s hot out and the hankering for a cold treat strikes, definitely go for their soft-serve ice cream, which comes in crowd-pleasing Vanilla (P170) and earthy Matcha (P180) variants. (Can't choose? Go for the combo, P180.) Orders come adorned with a sliver of the brand’s signature Croissant Crisp, which you can use as a makeshift spoon of sorts or crumble into the soft-serve.

Kiji Bakehouse is at Verve One, 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City.
