(SPOT.ph) There's a special sort of magic that comes from the likes of flour, butter, and/or sugar joining forces along with the heat of the oven to produce the baked goods known as pastries. Some, like croissants and Danishes, can be had in the morning to keep your a.m. cup of joe company; others, like macarons and tarts, are intended as light, teatime-appropriate snacks; others still, like mille-feuille and cream puffs, are best savored for dessert—either way, these treats deliver rich, satisfying bites. These recently opened spots in the Metro have your pastry hankerings covered for whenever they strike.

What do pastries and tattoos have in common? Seemingly little—until you step into The Tattooed Baker in Makati, anyway. The café and dining spot hails from the folks that brought us One World Deli and Pardon Your French, and true to its name, is helmed by tattooed baker Chef John Lees, himself. Their pastries are primarily of classic European and American flavor profiles—think choux buns stuffed with chocolate and almond praline, tarts topped with salted caramel and almonds, raspberry-ruby chocolate macarons, and pecan pie turned into an elegant tart.
