What to Try at Yardstick and Oatside’s Limited-Time Pop-Up
The coffee shop and oat milk brand join forces for a line of drinks and other treats not to miss.
(SPOT.ph) Know how during April Fool's Day, we're always on high alert regarding certain posts that are too good to be true? Well, consider the case of Oatside, the fairly new oat milk brand that changed the game in plant-based dairy. Just last April, they posted a joke on their social media accounts that if they were to open a café, it would have menu items including Oatside Curry, Oatside Ramen, and Oatside French Toast.
The April Fool’s post was obviously a joke, which some people didn’t get—but its fame did prove the apparent demand for an Oatside café to exist, especially in Manila. And now it’s here. Yup, the April Fool’s Day joke has come true with their pop-up in collaboration with homegrown coffee shop Yardstick.

After the three-month run of Yardstick's pop-up with Baguio's Rebel Bakeshop comes a new collaboration with popular plant-based milk Oatside. Five coffee exclusives are available at the pop-up—and yes, all of these use Oatside's original oat milk. Yardstick Coffee owner Andre Chanco tells SPOT.ph that every drink on the menu uses oat milk by default, this is to remove the mental gymnastics of the consumer whether to pay for an oat milk upgrade or not.
As for the inspiration behind the drinks, Chanco says these are all inspired by different countries, each with a distinct identity or image in the coffee industry. "Because Oatside is a global product, we wanted to do drinks inspired by the regions," Chanco shares. “Those are coffee cultures we enjoy, right? Australia is great, Japan is great.”

What's on the Yardstick x Oatside pop-up menu:
It might come as a shock to anyone who hasn't been to the Land Down Under that iced coffees in Australia are often a combination of ice cream and espresso—much like the Italian Affogato and nothing like the half-ice, half-coffee cups we get here in the Philippines. This is where Yardstick took inspiration from with their Aussie Iced Coffee (P245/regular, P260/large).
This "reimagined" coffee float uses a light iced coffee served with the slightly sweet Oatside soft serve on top. What we recommend is that you take a few spoonfuls of the soft serve on its own before stirring it in the coffee. It's both dreamy and refreshing, especially in the humid weather we've been experiencing lately.
Then there's Burnt Basque Cheesecake (P220/regular, P240/large if hot; P240/regular, P260 if iced) that takes inspiration from its namesake—and with that said, this coffee is for those with a sweet tooth. This espresso-based drink has Oatside, burnt honey that gives it a caramel-like taste, and what they call a "Cheesecake Magic" which Chanco describes as a special syrup concoction they made just for this drink. It's then topped with Sea Salt Cream that brings out the drink's sweetness.
When it comes to the drinks influenced by Japanese flavors, we have the Sakura Latte which delivers an aromatic coffee experience because of the "Cherry Blossom" syrup they mix with the espresso and Oatside. Chanco tells SPOT.ph that lychee is the secret ingredient that gives this drink that sweet aroma.
There's also the Matcha & Ube Latte, a two-toned layered drink that's purple at the bottom and forest green at the top. The bottom layer is a blend of ube and Oatside that gives it this thick consistency, while the top layer is whisked matcha. Chanco shares that, much like what we recommended with the Aussie Coffee, it's best to get a taste of each layer using the help of a straw before completely mixing the layers. For something simpler, there's the Hochija Latte (P180/regular, P200/large if hot; P200/regular, P220/large if iced) that's got Uji roasted green tea and Oatside in a cup.
The same soft serve on top of the Aussie Coffee comes from the pop-up exclusive. You can get the Oatside Soft Serve plain (P160/regular, P200/large) or you can have it with a shot of Espresso (+P50) to make your affogato, Kinako & Caramel (+P40) and Local Honey & Sea Salt (40) if you want your soft serve to be sweeter, then there's the Matcha & Chocolate (+P50) for with an umami profile.
Aside from these pop-up-exclusive drinks, they will also serve Yardstick classics that use oat milk. There's the Double Espresso/Black (P130/small, P150/regular, P170/large if hot; P170/regular, P180/large if iced), Caramel Cortado (P195/hot), Oat Latte (P210/regular, P230 if hot, P230/small, P254/large if iced), Sea Salt Latte (P230/regular, P245/large), Feel Good Latte (P224/regular, P2450large if hot, P2450/small, P260/large if iced), Mocha (P210/regular, P235 large if hot, P235/small, P250/large if iced), and Vanilla Latte (P195/regular, P205 large if hot, P205/small, P220/large if iced).
They also have on-rotation sliced cakes by TIldé Bakery which are Honey Buttercream Cake (P210), Pistachio Sanstival P(230), and Chocolate Cheesecake (P230) which you can have at the pop-up. The cafe will also serve other cookies like the Oatmeal Cookie (P110), Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie (P130), and Double Chocolate Chip Cookie (P130) if you want something to nibble on while walking or working.

Oatside is a premium plant-based milk brand, known for producing oat milk that is sustainably sourced and free from artificial additives.
