(SPOT.ph) Filipinos have long loved seafood of all kinds, but seafood rolls—the way they're enjoyed in places like Maine and Connecticut—were a real rarity in these parts. That is, until Bun Appetit made their debut in 2014, making a case for great seafood sandwiches made with the same level of thought and care as what you'd find abroad. Despite the relatively steep price at the time (roughly P600 a pop for their signature Lobster Roll) they grew to have their fair share of fans—because price aside, this was money well worth spent, given the generous amount of succulent seafood inside each buttery bun.
Over the years the brand's come a long way, introducing other menu items to their roster—of which are the gooey Crab Grilled Cheese, and the deadly-decadent Truffle Scallop Mac and Cheese—but this time around they're taking on the New York staple of Jewish origin that is bagels, halved and topped with star seafood and other elements. Take a look at their new seafood bagels that are making their debut at the Salcedo Saturday Market starting tomorrow, August 6.

Make it a date with the new seafood bagels of Bun Appetit this Saturday:
Bun Appetit is turning eight and celebrating it in the best way possible: with bangin' bagels (everything bagels, what have you) turned into open-faced sandwiches, plus topping combos that star great seafood. For starters, there's the Smoked Salmon (P350)—the ingredient in its silky, subtly smoked glory, paired with cream cheese, shallots, lemon, capers, and dill for a lox-esque ensemble. For a true taste of California summer, go for the Shrimp Avocado (P350); you can't go wrong with how the juicy shellfish comes together with the velvety character of the so-called butter fruit.
Prefer the sweet, juicy character of crab? Go for the Crab (P395) that's got the shredded meat of the crustacean along with garlic aioli for creaminess, plus dill for an herby boost, shallots, and capers for briny balance. Last but not least—taking a page from the Japanese—is the Ikura (P650), where glistening beads of ikura (cured salmon roe) add pops of the flavor of the sea to cream cheese, dill, shallots, and a sprinkling of grated lemon zest.
These bagels are available exclusively at Makati's famous Salcedo Market, which is open every Saturday at Jamie Velasquez Park from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. "We’re planning to add few more variants in [the weekend market] soon and want to focus on bagels at the market since it’s a more familiar breakfast option," Bun Appetit's Lawrence Cua adds. Go for it, Spotters. We can't think of a better companion to celebrate a chill weekend morning on a tasty note.
The Salcedo Market is at Jaime Velasquez Park, Salcedo Village, Makati City and is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. For more information, check out Bun Appetit's Facebook page.
