(SPOT.ph) Following Dolly de Leon’s back-to-back nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the British Academy Film Awards, arguably making her the first Filipino actor to enjoy such acclaim, all eyes were on her possibly getting an Oscar's nod. A dream that was dashed after the Academy Awards released their nominations for Best Supporting Actress on January 25, PH time—sans de Leon.

A lot of buzz had gone around that de Leon could be in the running for an Oscar for her supporting role in Triangle of Sadness, with some of the biggest movie experts backing this assumption. And while all basically all of Twitter was brokenhearted with "Dolly de Leon" among local trends, a certain Edgar Wright's reaction took the most focus. Yes, we’re talking about the reputable English filmmaker behind Ant-Man, Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead, and Last Night in Soho, just to name a few.

Edgar Wright reacts to Dolly de Leon Oscar snub

On Twitter, Wright wrote a succinct: “I'm still writing Dolly De Leon on my ballot.”

While it is unclear whether the filmmaker is part of the Oscar's voting body, it isn't too farfetched a reality for the acclaimed director. Plus, the shoutout has had several other Twitter users calling for Wright to cast de Leon in a future project. Only time can tell if this will turn into something more than a Twitter shoutout.

The nominations for Best Supporting Actress included Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once). Meanwhile, Triangle of Sadness is up for three categories: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and of course, Best Picture.

It's important to remember that this Oscar snub is just that—a snub. De Leon still marks her place in the industry, and if there's anyone who can vouch for talent, it's an acclaimed filmmaker like Wright. After all, Triangle of Sadness is just the latest big title under her belt; we've seen her in History ni Ha, Verdict, and Erik Matti's Hintayan ng Langit. More to come, for sure.

In the meantime, you can catch the screening of Triangle of Sadness at Cinema ’76 until the end of January.
