Joshua Garcia Lends His Voice to Inside Out 2 Filipino Dub

(SPOT.ph) People are quick to dismiss animated films as movies for kids, but Inside Out, and its sequel Inside Out 2, would beg to differ. The films use animation to discuss complicated human emotions in a way that's raw, real, and relatable, pushing the adults to unearth complex feelings from past. Inside Out 2 made us feel seen and it might hit even closer to home by the time you stream it on Disney+ this month because Filipino actor Joshua Garcia is lending his voice to a character for a special dub of the animated film.

Garcia, known for playing the leading man in rom-coms and drama movies, is set to play Lance Slashblade, an anime hero whom main character Riley had a secret crush on. Inside Out 2 doubles the emotions as Riley grapples with being a teenager, going from the initial five with Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear up to 9 with the inclusion of Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui.

His role on Inside Out 2 marks Garcia's first foray into animation dubbing, an experience he said was difficult but fulfiling, especially as a fan.

"Fan talaga ako ng animation at ng Inside Out, kaya na-excite ako sa opportunity na 'to. Akala ko nung una madali lang siya, pero hindi biro yung experience kaya looking forward ako makita yung final," he shared.

Garcia was so pumped for the role, claiming that "Joy is in control in my emotional HQ rn," in an Instagram post.

Inside Out 2 as the first Filipino-dubbed film on Disney+

Inside Out 2 is the first Disney+ offering to get a Filipino dub. While most animated and box office releases do drop on the streaming platform, there are rarely changes or cast additions, making Inside Out 2 special for the Filipino audience. 

The sequel raked in P88.8 million on opening day last June, and currently holds the record for the Philippines' fourth highest grossing film and second highest grossing animation.

Inside Out 2 streams on September 25 on Disney+.
