Pixar's Latest Short Features a Gay Main Character Who's Struggling to Come Out

Check out the trailer for Pixar's Out!

(SPOT.ph) Though time may feel like a mere imaginary construct in this pandemic, believe it or not, it's almost June! That means Pride Month is just around the corner. For those of you who like to take this time of year to get better informed about the LGBTQ community and to celebrate queer representation in films, plays, and other cultural art forms, we've got some exciting news: Animation studio Pixar recently released the trailer for its latest short film entitled Out, which centers around a gay man struggling to open up to his parents about his sexuality. We're beyond excited to see more LGBTQ representation in film, and especially in a movie targeted towards younger audiences!

Check out the film's teaser trailer below:

Out follows a young man named Greg, who is about to move to a different city. The trailer shows him examining a framed picture of himself and his partner Manuel as he practices coming out to his parents. He hides the photograph in a panic as his mom and dad show up unexpectedly to send him off—with a little help from his loyal doggie companion who attempts to further conceal the evidence. However, the trailer shows his mother later discovering the framed picture in a drawer. How does she react? Of course, you'd have to see the full movie to figure that out.

The nine-minute short film is currently streaming on Disney+, which is unfortunately not available in the Philippines as of writing. We're crossing our fingers that the streaming platform will be available in the country soon, or perhaps that the progressive new short will be featured alongside future Pixar cinematic releases. Until then, we can at least celebrate the representation.
