This Acclaimed Director Is Looking for a New Star Through a Local App
Cathy Garcia-Molina will be at the helm of this Star Cinema-Kumu project.
(SPOT.ph) Director Cathy Garcia-Molina has a new movie coming up to add to her line-up of feels filled flicks! In an announcement by Star Cinema on July 2, the film production company is teaming up with Kumu for a movie, which will be directed by Garcia-Molina. Yup, it's bound to be a different type of flick and we're doing our best to imagine what a team up between the huge production house and the social media platform would be like, too. Luckily, they let us in on a few deets!
Here's what you should know about the Star Cinema X Kumu movie from Cathy Garcia-Molina:
Curious how to get into this movie? Well, the first step is to be a Kumu user, explained Paolo Pineda, senior vice president for business development at Kumu, during the announcement. "We found a way to make [Kumu users] part of it, not necessarily the big stars, but they can star in the movie. They can sing the song for the movie and few more things," he said. More announcements will come in the next few weeks, he added.
"It will actually be a first in Philippine movie history," said Pineda, about the type of movie the two companies are planning.
The movie will revolve around romance and family, which are two very Star Cinema themes, according to Olivia Lamasan, head of ABS-CBN Films. She added that the film will star new faces from Black Sheep Studio's new talent management arm, Rise Artists Studio. It will drop in 2021.
Garcia-Molina, herself an avid streamer on Kumu, said that she accepted the project "because makaka-create tayo ng bagong avenue as Kumu is already doing [for] new artists." She added that folks should tune in to her Kumu streams for insider info on the new movie—and hopefully, maybe even news on her John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo reunion movie!
