John Arcilla Just Won Best Actor at the 2021 Venice Film Festival
For his performance in On The Job: The Missing 8.
(SPOT.ph) In a huge win for Philippine cinema, Filipino actor John Arcilla just bagged the Volpi Cup for Best Actor Award at the 78th annual Venice International Film Festival for his performance in the Erik Matti-directed film On The Job: The Missing 8 (a.k.a. On The Job 2)—a follow up to the 2013 thriller. Matti received the award on Arcilla's behalf at the ceremony. The festival took place between September 1 and 11 with the film premiering on the 10th. It was the only Southeast Asian entry in the main competition.

It Seems John Arcilla Manifested His Best Actor Win at the Venice International Film Festival
Arcilla accepted his award through a video, which was played at the cereemony. His co-star Dennis Trillo, who attended the event in person, shared a clip of the actor's acceptance speech on Instagram. "If there is something that I really regret tonight, it is that I will not be able to kiss my Volpi Cup there in the middle of Venice and on that red carpet just like the other 77 great actors whom I admire who have already kissed their own," said Arcilla.
In On The Job: The Missing 8, Arcilla plays a journalist named Sisoy Salas who is forced to start an investigation following the disappearance of his colleagues. The film also features Trillo, Christopher De Leon, Lotlot De Leon, Agot Isidro, Rayver Cruz, and Andrea Brillantes, among others.
A longer version of The Missing 8 can be streamed through the On The Job six-part miniseries, in which the first two episodes are a longer cut of the 2013 flick of the same name while the last four episodes are a longer version of the 2021 sequel film. The series premieres on HBO Go today, September 12.
