(SPOT.ph) If we're being realistic, there's possibly nothing that will ever come close to topping the feeling of waking up on a rainy Saturday morning, heating up some instant noodles, and putting on the newest episode of our favorite cartoon. All that to say, our lives peaked in childhood, and there's no going back. Kidding, of course, as the dawn of streaming services has allowed us to re-binge our favorite childhood programming, but what we would do to experience all that again for the first time!
For many '90s kids and children of the aughts, in particular, the two Avatar series centered on Aang and Korra were the first introduction to long-term investment, multi-season, epic television. It's still hard to beat the emotional attachment we felt as Aang finally dueled the Fire Lord and as Korra finally saved Republic City.
The only series we can see matching that level of investment once again is another series focused on a third Avatar protagonist, which is why you may have noticed social media in a frenzy over a vague post made by the Legend of Korra Facebook page. People are now wondering, "could a new Avatar series be on the way?"

Here's everything we know about the new Avatar after Korra:
Let's first break down the post in question. The post features a picture of the Avatar Aang memorial statue that towers above the entrance-by-sea into Republic City, the main setting of The Legend of Korra. The photo was accompanied by the caption, "Republic City awaits a new Avatar."
At first glance, yes, this post may seem like it's directly teasing that a new Avatar character and series are on the way, but—us being the obsessive fans that we are—let's delve deeper into the context behind the post.
Firstly, given the mechanics set up within the fantasy world of the Avatar franchise, a "new Avatar" would entail that the previous Avatar (in this case, Korra) has passed away, while the Avatar cycle continues with the Avatar's reincarnation being discovered a few years after the prior one's death. So... did they just announce that Korra is dead and the cycle is ready to begin again?
Most likely not, as Korra was announced to have a graphic novel trilogy coming in 2023, and it would be a tad bit questionable for the creators behind the Avatar franchise to suggest her passing before the graphic novel series comes out.
The second questionable aspect of the post is that it showcases a picture of Aang and Republic City awaiting a new Avatar, instead of the current Avatar, Korra. By the looks of the photo, it doesn't seem like Republic City has gone a significant transformation since it was last depicted in The Legend of Korra, which would also be odd, given that a new Avatar series would, at the very least, have to be set many decades after Korra's finale.
The time jump in between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra saw a significant leap in technology, as the most significant technological development in Airbender was the invention of airships, while the technology in Korra resembled that of the 1940s, with automobiles, radio, and the like. If Korra herself was able to make it to her elderly stages, then the new Avatar series after her would most likely be set in an era that resembles modern-day technology already, not the Republic City depicted in the post.
In conclusion, the "new Avatar" post looks more like a throwback photo referencing Korra, instead of an actual "new Avatar," and some social media intern will probably get reprimanded for their loose wording.
However, hope is not lost, as it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the first animated Avatar movie would be about the adventures of Aang and Team Avatar in their adulthood. Additionally, there is also the live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender coming to Netflix.
