(SPOT.ph) A Filipino company has made it to the top 50 of Forbes' annual list of the best 700 employers in the world. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) went up 131 spots to become 43rd on the World's Best Employers List by Forbes and market research firm Statista, making it the only Philippine company at the top rungs.
Joining the Filipino company were seven more: Security Bank (54th), Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company or Metrobank (162nd), Ayala Corporation (186th), Alliance Global (283rd), Landbank (304th), LT Group (361st), and SM Investments (420th). SMC claimed the top spot among local firms, outranking even international companies like Johnson & Johnson (56th), Coca Cola (77th), Panasonic (97th), and more.

At rung number one is South Korean company Samsung, followed by U.S.-based companies Microsoft and Alphabet. Ever-popular tech behemoth Apple wasn't able to break into the top three, following instead at the fourth spot.
This annual list covers employers from across the globe, with Forbes partnering with Statista to determine which companies "offer exciting work and a positive environment." They surveyed more than 170,000 employees in over 50 countries, asking questions like whether they'd recommend their company to others, rate employers based on remote working options, leave benefits, diversity, work-life balance, and more criteria.

San Miguel Corporation makes it to 43rd spot on Forbes' list of best employers
"It’s a great honor to make it to this list of the world’s 700 best employers, along with some of the most recognized and most successful Philippine firms. This just goes to show that Filipinos can compete and run proudly with the very best in the world," said SMC head Ramon Ang in a statement.
Ang attributed the top ranking to "strong emphasis on business for nation-building, our core value of malasakit, coupled with our decisive and impactful actions related to greater sustainability," he said. "We have also always strived to provide our employees an environment where they can learn, realize their potential, build good relationships with colleagues, and feel they are part of not just a great heritage, but also of something bigger."
SMC plays in multiple industries. Forbes listed them down for "food, soft beverages, alcohol, and tobacco." While those are their beginnings, they have also delved into infrastructure and development, with the New Manila International Airport in Bulacan as their biggest upcoming project.
