Ateneo Tops 56 Local Universities in THE Impact Rankings

(SPOT.ph) This year, 56 Philippine universities made it to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024, a global list of institutions promoting sustainable development across various areas of education—with Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) leading the way.

THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on specific contributions to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Climate Action, to name a few.

ADMU placed in the top 300 globally, with notable achievements in SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). In May, the school took a significant step towards sustainability by shifting its Loyola Heights campus to 100% renewable energy.

De La Salle University, Ifugao State University, and University of the Philippines follow, all three ranking between the 401st and 600th positions. Batangas State University, Mariano Marcos State University, and University of Santo Tomas were among those in the 601st to 800th bracket.

“Different universities are scored based on a different set of SDGs, depending on their focus. In this way, these rankings celebrate diversity, recognising that there is not one single definition of excellence and that it is the collective strength of the global higher education sector that will help to build a more sustainable, collaborative and global future,” THE said.
