Some are easy to guess the meaning. Heart-hands emoji? Come on, that's obvious. Others... not so much. Like, what on Earth does a big red "B" mean?

Pleading Face with fingers pointing
What we thought it was used for: When people are trying to look coy or innocent.
What it actually means: The above is somewhat correct! People usually add this to come off as shy or timid, for extra appeal. In other words, pabebe factor.
How it got there: It's not an uncommon gesture for one to make a pouty-slash-pleading face while touching their two fingers together. Just think: the Puss in Boots stare.
Kissing Face with OK Hand
What we thought it was used for: When something is really good.
What it actually means: When you think something is exquisitely good, magnifique, or a 10 out of 10.
How it got there: The emoji combination is a depiction of the "chef's kiss" gesture, but the pair of emojis can be used in relation to more than just food.
Eye-Mouth-Eye
What we thought it was used for: When you're in awe, clueless as to what the F is happening right now.
What it actually means: The three emojis are usually used as a reply to show a shocked, confused, or disgusted reaction to something you've just been told. It could also, yes, be used on its own to express cluelessness or helplessness against the bizarre or overwhelming events happening around you.
How it got there: The use of these three emojis together were popularized on social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok. Like many trends on the Internet, its exact origins are unknown but it spread like wildfire.
Nail Polish
What we thought it was used for: Showing that you're fancy.
What it actually means: Usually used to add a sassy tone to your comments or replies. It's typically added at the end of a sentence to give it the effect of "period" or "end of discussion."
How it got there: The emoji depicts an image of a person nonchalantly painting their nails. When combined with hot takes or controversial opinions, the emoji gives the user an aura of confidence and sassy bite that should be feared (or respected).
Cap
What we thought it was used for: To represent a cap or headwear.
What it actually means: When someone is lying and you're calling them out on their BS.
How it got there: If you've read our explainer on very odd, modern slang words, then you'll know the term "no cap" means "no BS" or that a person is not lying. Consequently, cap stands for "BS" or "lies," so just sending the cap emoji means you are calling "cap" on a person's false statements.
Frog and Hot Beverage
What we thought it was used for: When your coffee is toad-ally hot.
What it actually means: When a person drops tea or spicy revelations, then immediately refuses to expound upon it. It's usually added at the end of the statement as a "no further comment" or "but I won't expound because that ain't my business."
How it got there: One of the popular memes of the early 2010's was that of Kermit the Frog drinking tea with the caption "but that's none of my business," usually placed at the bottom.
Otter
What we thought it was used for: When you're quietly or comfortably observing.
What it actually means: Typically used as an Instagram caption for when you're vibing, relaxing, or chilling, especially at the beach or on vacation.
How it got there: People love otters and using animal emojis to represent themselves. This one is also one of the more detailed animal emojis, as it depicts the otter swimming comfortably, so it's become a popular representation of the letting loose vibes.
Person Standing
What we thought it was used for: When someone is quietly observing or caught in a moment.
What it actually means: This emoji is typically used to indicate you're speechless, or a less awkward "I don't know how to respond to that." It could also be used as a passive-aggressive "I'm waiting."
How it got there: This emoji featuring a man standing completely still and abnormally straight is somewhat like the Mike Wazowski-Sulley Face Swap meme, where the central character is giving the most neutral, blank-face expression to show how speechless they are.
B Button (Blood Type)
What we thought it was used for: No clue whatsoever.
What it actually means: This B Button emoji is typically used to replace other consonants (particularly the letters B, D, G, K, and P) for no other reason than just random comedic effect.
How it got there: The use of this emoji grew popular on shitposts (memes that are meant to be funny because they don't make sense) and oversaturated memes, because it's somewhat funny to see a huge letter B in a bright red box next to other letters that are of the regular font.
Pushin' P
What we thought it was used for: When you're pushing pennies for dollars and just barely making it.
What it actually means: When you're pushing P, it generally means you're feeling good, keeping it real, or having a good life. P would then stand for positivity, in an umbrella term sense. However, P could also stand more specifically "paper" (i.e. money), so you're spending money by pushing P, or for "player," which would also mean you're living a good and enjoyable lifestyle.
How it got there: The term grew in popularity over 2022 because of the Gunna song "pushin' P" (featuring Future and Young Thug). With the slang term making its way outside of the rap and hip-hop communities, it took on the general connotation of "positivity."
