(SPOT.ph) The Philippines might be composed of several thousand archipelagos, but that won’t stop Filipinos from taking road trips far up north or down south. One main way to get there is through the various expressways that connect us from point A to B.

There are two RFIDs in use right now—Autosweep and Easytrip—and it could prove tricky for first-time users to figure out how or when it is used. For example: the trip from Cavite to Clark will require you to pass through Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Easytrip), South Luzon Expressway (Autosweep), Skyway (Autosweep), North Luzon Expressway (Easytrip), and finally the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (Easytrip).

Basically, RFIDs are radio frequency identification systems used for electronic toll collection on expressways. They consist of a small sticker-like tag containing an embedded microchip that is placed on a vehicle's windshield.

Using an RFID system for toll payments offers several advantages like faster transactions. It also allows online account management to monitor and reload funds without having to wait in line at the toll booth.

How to get an Easytrip and Autosweep RFID

You will only need one RFID sticker for both Easytrip and Autosweep payment thanks to something we call interoperability. However, the burden of managing two separate accounts remain. Motorists who choose to keep both RFID stickers won’t have to worry about double payment upon passing the toll gate, since the cashless systems will only charge the applicable account.

How to load funds into Easytrip and Autosweep RFID

Both Autosweep and Easytrip RFID tags are linked to prepaid accounts, which require sufficient funds to pay for toll fees. Motorists blocking the flow of traffic at the RFID lane caused by insufficient load will be issued a ticket for “obstruction” so make sure to track your balance before going on a road trip.

Onsite

To top up, visit an authorized reloading center or partner retail outlets. The only thing you’ll need is your RFID account number or vehicle information.
