PSA: Those Cute Beep Charms Might Not Be Safe to Use
A friendly reminder.
(SPOT.ph) Beep cards are a must for every regular commuter, so when it became scarce, some turned to cuter alternatives for the blue card: Aesthetic and functional beep charm readily available online.
However, beep is warning the public against beep charms being sold on e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Lazada.
“Beware of customized beep products,” it said in a post. “These unauthorized paraphernalia items sold as alternatives for beep cards may lead to invalid transactions and uncertain card reloads.”
From Sanrio to Avengers to UNO, many of these leather beep charms with popular characters or references on them are priced from P350 to P500 on Shopee. Some even offer customized designs for P700. The products carry the beep name in its pictures, but it does not have Beep's approval.
In contrast, the official beep cards are only priced at P180 on Shopee and Lazada.
It's unclear how these beep charms can sometimes function like regular beep cards. beep has not responded to SPOT.ph's requests for comment.
