SNEAK PEEK: 10 Cool Titles Spotted at the Manila International Book Fair 2022

(SPOT.ph) While the book reader debate on whether printed editions or e-books are better perpetually rages on, all lovers of letters and enthusiasts of the written word can surely agree that book fairs are best experienced onsite, rather than, well, on a website.

Sure, it may be easier to find the title you're looking for and the time between log-in and check-out is significantly reduced. However, nothing beats the thrill of book hunting, coming across titles only because the cover caught your fleeting glance as you navigate the labyrinth-like structure of the fairgrounds, and, ultimately, getting back home with way more books than you expected. Our sincerest apologies go out to our wallets.

Finally, we get to experience that thrill once again with the Manila International Book Fair, which is finally back on-site at the SMX Convention Center Manila, beginning Thursday, September 15. We checked out the first hour of the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2022's launch, and to paraphrase How to Train Your Dragon's Stoick the Vast, it's just "as beautiful as the day we lost it."

The MIBF 2022 comes with book deals, exclusive titles, hidden gems, and editions not typically found at retailers, as well as events such as live readings and book launches, and much more. It's a true treasure trove of knowledge and reading, but—don't worry—this isn't like one of those forbidden treasure adventure movies; you're invited to browse and make deep dives into the material.

They never told you that the second part of the "don't judge a book by its cover" metaphor was "...unless the book cover is freaking rad." We're accustomed to graphic novels and young-adult books having these kinds of eye-catching and vibrant covers, but every now and then, you'll find a book about history or life improvement that goes above and beyond in the cover art department. Hint: the extra effort could indicate that the contents of the book are equally as rich.
