The practice of customizing footwear isn't new, we know. Shoe collectors have been commissioning unique designs for years, with some even having go-to spots. Another thing we do know is that Nike has what is practically a chokehold on die-hard and aspiring shoe fanatics. Chances are you've participated in a raffle for the chance to cop popular shoes like the Nike Dunk Low in Panda and Coconut Milk. And since the odds aren't always in your favor, we'd like to present a way for you to recreate popular styles, or even better: make one of your own.

Design your own custom Nike shoes with this app.
In case you didn't know, the Nike mobile app—and website—has a nifty feature called Nike By You where yep, you've guessed it, you can customize selected Nike shoes to your heart's content. The process is fairly simple. First off, make sure you're a registered member of the online Nike community; you can sign up free online and in the app.
Start by picking out your base shoe (price varies). Once you've decided on the pair to cop, you pick your size and start customizing. Nike gives you two options for the material: canvas and leather as well as a variety of color swatches to choose from. The parts of the shoe that you're allowed to customize are the vamp, tip, quarter, tongue, tongue label, foxing/lining, the all-important swoosh and backtab, and more.
Each pair of custom Nike shoes takes approximately four to six weeks to arrive at your doorstep. Note that shipping is not included in the base price. To help you further visualize what the final product may look like, peep the author's custom Air Force 1 shoes below:
