Chinese New Year Celebration in QC's Banawe is Back This 2023

(SPOT.ph) The traditional celebration of Chinese New Year in Banawe Street in Quezon City will return on Sunday, January 22 to welcome the Year of the Water Rabbit after being suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's festivities will be held at the corner of P. Florentino and Banawe Street, which has been dubbed as Quezon City's Chinatown and where numerous Chinese restaurants are located.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian will grace the event as guest of honor and keynote speaker, while Quezon City Tourism Department head Tetta Tirona will lead the celebration.

“Ito’y isang paraan ng pagpapakita ng ating pakikiisa sa ating Filipino-Chinese community na katuwang natin sa pag-unlad at pagpapatibay ng ating siyudad,” Tirona said.
“Nagpasya rin tayong gawin ulit ang Banawe Chinese New Year celebration para maipakita ang unti-unting pagbalik natin sa normal mula sa epekto ng pandemya,” she added.
What to expect in the Banawe Chinese New Year celebration?
Among the activities that people can expect in this year's Banawe Chinese New Year celebration include a float parade, dragon and lion dance performance, food festival and bazaar, and a fireworks display.
Also performing during the program are Philippine Kong Han Athletic Club Lion Dancers, Philippine Cultural Chinese 20-piece Orchestra, Chinese Cultural Dance Group, Philippine Institute of QC Children’s Glee Club.
Singers Shiloh Choy and Shawn Tan will give solo performances, while the Philippine Wushu Colleges and Clubs Association will hold a wushu exhibition. Feng Shui Master Rev. Fr. Wong Seng Tian will also give his predictions for the Chinese New Year.
The Quezon City government earlier passed an ordinance formally designating the city's Chinatown in Banawe as a tourism district to allow for improvements in its accessibility, environmental sustainability, infrastructures, and amenities.
