LOOK: This Free Christmas Park in Ortigas Is Finally Back After 3 Years

(SPOT.ph) We are less than a month away from Christmas; by now, your holiday spirit should already be at an all-time high. But if you've got a case of the Scrooge and need a holiday pick-me-up, don't worry. There is no shortage of cheery sights and holiday installations like Christmas parks and light shows in the Metro to keep the blues away. Case in point, if you're in the Pasig-slash-Ortigas area, you can get your dose of holiday cheer at Meralco's Liwanag Park. This free-to-visit park is open daily (holidays included) until January 6.

Here's what to expect at Meralco's Liwanag Park:

Meralco's Liwanag Park finally makes an IRL comeback after three long years. The Christmas-themed park features colorful light displays and a train ride around the area. 

As the Meralco compound is quite spacious, guests who want to see the main exhibit sans all the walking can board the  Christmas train that can take them on a tour around. Train rides start at 7 p.m. and go until 9 p.m. and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Each train can accommodate up to 16 guests at a time. But hey, if the line proves too much for your patience, you can also just walk around the park and get your steps in.

There's also a larger-than-life space dedicated to telling the story of the nativity, a.k.a. the staple belen. There are also lots of different-colored Christmas trees, a giant parol, and a tunnel of lights, a perfect backdrop for your holiday profile pictures.

All of this is free for the public to experience and explore on Mondays to Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays to Sundays (and public holidays) from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Here are a few reminders to note when visiting Meralco's Liwanag Park:

As much as Liwanag Park is open to guests of all ages, make sure to keep a close eye on your children. As for fur parents, it is sad to say that no pets are allowed in Meralco's Liwanag Park, so please leave your fur babies at home. 

Outside food and drinks aren't allowed on the park premises. Don't worry. In case you get thirsty or hungry while roaming around, there are food vendors and a designated dining area at Liwanag Park. Just make sure to practice the "Clean As You Go" principle and avoid littering. 

Photo-taking is encouraged around Liwanag Park; however, the operation of drones is not allowed for security purposes.

Liwanag Park is part of Meralco’s Maliwanag ang Pasko program which started in 2011.

Meralco Liwanag Park is at Meralco Main Office, Ortigas Ave, Pasig. It is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays and 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays to Sundays and public holidays until January 6. For more information, visit Meralco's website.
