How does Oona's Smart Flight Delay Insurance work?

It all sounds fine and dandy, but let's get technical.  After all, this is still insurance. To be technical about it, delays are based on ‘gate’ delay reporting from airlines and airports to FlightStats, a third-party flight data tracker. FlightStats will report all delays to the system, and the lounge passes are automatically sent to you once a delay reaches or exceeds the 60-minute delay time.

In case your flight is delayed, Oona automatically sends you your premium airport lounge access voucher via your registered email and SMS. If you have registered travel companions, you will receive multiple PDF attachments in a single email, each PDF being a lounge pass for each passenger. Each PDF contains a LoungeKeyTM pass with a unique QR code that provides access to the participating lounges at your airport.

Lounge passes will be provided if a flight is formally reported by the airline as being delayed by two hours or more within 24 hours.

Note that Oona's Smart Flight Delay Insurance only covers delayed flights. Sadly, if your flight gets canceled, that's an entirely different story—er, product.

Oona Insular Insurance Corporation (Oona Insurance Philippines) is wholly owned by Oona Philippines Holdings Corporation (OPHC). It was MAPFRE Insurance until Insular Life and the Oona Insurance group from Singapore bought significant stocks. They offer many products, including motor, property, and personal accident insurance.
