Qantas Will Fly Direct from Manila to Brisbane This Year

(SPOT.ph) There's more to Australia than just Sydney and Melbourne. Should the promise of an urban river city rich with botanical gardens, white sand beaches, and a vibrant art scene excite you, you must add Brisbane, Queensland, to your list of places to see. The capital city of Queensland has a lot to offer Filipino tourists visiting the land down under. 

And here's good news to Filipino travelers: If you've got an itch to visit Brisbane, Qantas is bringing back its Brisbane-Manila (and vice-versa) direct flights this October.

Here's what you need to know about Qantas' new flight route:

In a statement released to members of the media, Qantas, Australia's flag carrier, announced it will be making a series of updates to its Asia network. These changes include the resumption of the Brisbane- Manila flight route starting October 28. 

"The flying kangaroo," as Qantas is fondly called, will operate four days per week with an Airbus A330 aircraft. This marks the first time the airline has flown between the two cities in over 10 years.

Previously, the Brisbane-Manila (and vice-versa) route was only accessible through a bunch of connecting flights totaling over 12 hours of flying time. With this new direct flight, reports suggest passengers flying Qantas can expect a reduced flying time of approximately 6 to 8 hours one way. 

"This will create more choice for our corporate and leisure customers and make it even easier for them to access the places they need to travel to in Asia," says Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace. The flights add to Qantas’ current daily service from Sydney and will add more than 100,000 seats between Australia and the Philippines annually.

Tickets for the Brisbane-Manila route and vice-versa will be available for booking on the Qantas website and through official third-party ticketing partners in the coming days.

Brisbane is the capital of the state of Queensland, Australia. This city is known for its riverside cityscape but is also rich in white sand beaches, including the four largest sand islands in the world. Brisbane City is also home to major landmarks and attractions, including the South Bank Parklands, the City Botanic Gardens, King George Square, and the Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and Lookout. Brisbane will also be the site of the 2032 Olympic Games.
