Heads Up, Filipinos Can Continue to Enter Taiwan Visa-Free

(SPOT.ph) Heads up, travel bugs. Here's more visa-related news that's bound to make your travels a lot smoother. If you were planning on traveling to Taiwan in the latter half of the year until 2025, put those visa application forms aside. The land of milk tea and xiao long bao just announced they are extending visa-free travel for Filipino nationals until July 2025.

What to know about Taiwan's extension of visa-free travel:
In a statement released by Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs office under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), visa-free travel for Filipinos has been extended to July 31, 2025. Under the extended visa-free program, ordinary Philippine passport holders can enjoy up to 14 days of visa-free stays in Taiwan. However, individuals holding diplomatic, official, or service passports are ineligible for this privilege and must undergo the usual visa application processes.
"After evaluating the effectiveness of the above measures over the past years, participating agencies decided to extend the trial visa-free entry program for one year for nationals of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025," says Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on their website.
Tourists hoping to visit Taiwan simply have to prepare the following items before entering the country:
- Proof of accommodation
- Contact details of their host or sponsor in Taiwan
- Sufficient travel funds to cover their expenses during the stay.
- Valid passport with over six months validity
The visa-free privilege granted to Filipinos was initially set to expire by the end of July this year. This extension comes from the island nation's effort to boost its tourism and improve mutual bilateral relations with other nations.
Taiwan first opened its doors to visa-free travel for Filipinos on November 1, 2017. This policy has since been extended annually.
