Vermosa Estate in Imus, Cavite Is Car-Free During the Weekends

(SPOT.ph) Good news, citizens of Etivac—specifically those in Imus. There's now a new spot where you can take a leisurely weekend stroll without fear of cars getting in the way. Introducing: Vermosa Open Streets Weekends.

Every weekend until February 23, major roads of Ayala Land's Vermosa Estate in Imus, Cavite, will become car-free zones dedicated to Caviteños and visitors who want to engage in physical activities like cycling, running, and the like.

Here's what you need to know about Vermosa Open Streets Weekends:

On Saturdays and Sundays, the "Open Streets" program will close portions of Vermosa Boulevard, Champions Loop, and Olympic Drive to vehicular traffic from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. One loop around the Open Streets is about 2 kilometers—almost one round at the UP Diliman Academic Oval. 

This initiative creates safe spaces for physical activities and social interaction while embracing the movement toward more liveable and people-centric spaces.

Activities at Open Streets Weekends at Vermosa

Open Streets Weekends allows everyone to partake in various physical activities around the Vermosa estate. The Open Streets are divided into two zones to best accommodate certain activities' space and their safety requirements. Vermosa Boulevard's Southbound lane is called the Running, Walking, and Rolling Zone; while the Northbound side is the Cycling Zone.

Activities allowed in the Running, Walking, and Rolling Zone include leisure biking (speed under 12 kilometers per hour), pedal-powered tri-cycle riding, push biking, rollerskating, skateboarding (no tricks allowed), and kick scooter riding. 

Meanwhile, the cycling zone is reserved for intermediate biking or cycling with speeds above 12 kilometers per hour. 

Beyond being a spot for physical activity, Vermosa Open Streets will feature various community-building activities, including painting sessions, jump fitness classes, Zumba/ cardio classes, and an area for refreshments and quick weekend meetups. 

As a happy little bonus for fur parents, Vermosa Open Streets is pet-friendly. You can bring your pets for a walk here, provided they are leashed and monitored at all times. You must also clean up after them in case of any accidents (iykyk).

Vermosa Open Streets is inspired by Car-Free Sundays at Ayala Avenue, launched by Ayala Land and Make It Makati in September 2023, and it has since been continuously extended as more and more people participate in the activities. Just like its inspiration, representatives from Vermosa assure the public that if all goes well, Vermosa Open Streets Weekends may extend its duration.
