Rody Vera Offers Online Playwriting Workshop for Free
Get your ideas out there.
(SPOT.ph) We're now more than a week into a government-mandated quarantine, and you're probably starting to run out of things to do at home. If you're looking to try your hand at playwriting, Rody Vera is offering a month-long online playwriting course for free. To sign up, just fill out Pelikulove's Google form.
The 13-lesson course, which is otherwise available for P6,800, was launched in time for the 15th anniversary of the Virgin Labfest on June 29, 2019. Topics include the very basic history of playwriting to the more advanced topics of staging a production and dealing with directors and actors, all available as play-on-demand clips with summarized handouts. There's also an online community forum where you can submit writing exercises from the lessons or a whole play you wrote while doing the online course.
Vera is one of the most respected names in Philippine playwriting. He co-founded the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ The Virgin Labfest, which has been providing an avenue for emerging Filipino playwrights to stage their "unpublished, unstaged, untried, and untested" works since it was established in 2004. He's a Hall of Famer at the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, which means he has achieved the distinction of winning five first prizes; a Dangal ni Balagtas awardee for his contributions in strengthening Filipino culture and arts; and the former artistic director of the Philippine Educational Theater Association.
