(SPOT.ph) International travel may not be an option in 2020, but things are looking up if you're planning to fly out in 2021. In an announcement by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 23, it was revealed that the country is extending 14-day visa-free entry for nationals of Thailand, Brunei, Philippines, and Russia until July 31, 2021.
It can be remembered that Taiwan first opened their doors to visa-free travel for Filipinos on November 1, 2017. It was extended annually until the current policy, which is set to expire on July 31. This is part of their efforts to promote the "New Soutbound Policy," a program which has since increased international travelers to Taiwan's many tourist destinations.
Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in Manila, however, clarified that the visa-free grant does not take precedence over COVID-19 measures—most especially entry regulations, which takes effect on June 29. Foreign nationals who are traveling to Taiwan for "reasons other than tourism and regular social visits" are required to apply for a special entry permit, present an English-language certificate indicating negative results of COVID-19 test, and undergo a 14-day home quarantine period.
Until leisure travel is allowed again, we shall continue planning our Taiwan itinerary.
