(SPOT.ph) Boracay is always top of mind when it comes to beach destinations in the Philippines. Filipino travelers and foreigners always rave about its powdery white sand, rows of must-try restaurants, and variety of places to stay—from hip hostels to luxurious resorts. And Time, an American magazine that's been around since 1923, agrees, too. In its list of "The World's Greatest Places of 2022" published on July 12, Boracay makes it as one of the "50 extraordinary destinations to explore."

Charlie Campbell, East Asia Correspondent for Time, wrote: "As of February 2022, international visitors can finally revel in this revamped, recuperated, natural playground after what was effectively a three-year convalescence. Locals report the return of flora and fauna, like sea turtles, and hospitality has come back just as spectacularly." This was after Boracay Island struggled with sewage, trash, and decades of ecological abuse; a six-month rehabilitation; and closure due to the pandemic. "[...] the silver lining was that this four-square-mile speck in the Visayas island chain had proper time to truly recover," Campbell added.
Time's list of World's Greatest Places came from "solicited nominations of places from our international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences," the American magazine explained. It includes 50 "far-flung and familiar spots," including the Galápagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Seoul, The Arctic, Hwange National Park, and many more.
