(SPOT.ph) Not all places to stay are created equal. City hotels take pride in their accessibility, luxury hotels offer top-notch pampering, boutique hotels put the spotlight on art and design, and so on. The Ascott Limited, which has several lodging properties in its portfolio, opened its first every coliving brand in Singapore in 2019. Called Lyf, which is styled as "lyf" with all small letters and appropriately pronounced as "life," the concept is all about providing basic hotel amenities but with a dynamic twist.
"There is a rising class of millennials with spending power, and they are not looking for hotels or serviced apartments; they want something more unique, more Instagrammable, more fun," explained Mindy Teo, deputy managing director for the lyf brand, when we checked out their lyf Funan outpost three years ago.

Fast forward to now, The Ascott Limited announced to the press that they're finally pushing through with the opening of lyf Cebu City and lyf Malate Manila in 2023. The two properties were initially intended to open in the fourth quarter of 2022, but life (we mean, the pandemic) happened.
"lyf is short for live your freedom. It's a coliving concept that seamlessly combines the conveniences of hotel, serviced residents, and—this is something that's unique to the brand—shared apartment; while at the same time focuses on that sense of belonging that comes from being part of the family. lyf is actually designed for the next generation of travelers," explained Rennan John Reyes during a media roundtable with The Ascott Limited on July 27. He is the incoming general manager of Ascott Bonifacio Global City and Citadines Bay City.
lyf Cebu City is expected to feature 159 rooms, ranging from a studio to a two-bedroom apartment, while lyf Malate Manila will have 202 units. The latter, in particular, is set to take advantage of its location in the capital's culture and art scene, mirroring this vibe at lyf Malate Manila's vibrant spaces.
Aside from two lyf properties, The Ascott Limited is scheduled to have an additional 13 places to stay under its three other brands: Citadines, Somerset, and Ascott.
