(SPOT.ph) We can be absolutely sure that whoever coined the saying “the journey is more important than the destination” came to that conclusion without ever taking a trip to Albay from Metro Manila. With a 14-hour travel time via both land and sea to Misibis Bay Resort in Albay from Metro Manila, the idea of “arriving at our destination” seems pretty darn appealing to us!

In any case and mode of travel, sweetening the destination pot for Albay, in particular, is Misibis Bay Resort. Located at the southernmost point of Cagraray Island, overlooking Albay Gulf, it takes a long and winding series of roads to get to this resort—but upon arrival, you’ll be nothing but lulled into the sweet spot of stillness that all out-of-town vacations need.

Whilst being toured on the grounds of the tropical retreat by Chinky Jacobe, Banquet Sales Manager of Misibis Bay Resort, she mentions that over the years, the resort has predominantly seen vacation bookings from large families and businesses on company retreats. Whether it be for weddings where clans of family members are invited to come out or for multi-layered companies hosting celebratory work events literally by the beach, the resort has a befitting elegant yet adventurous design for these more landmark gatherings.
Yet, it’s simultaneously an escape for any solo traveler or limited travel group looking to have their thoughts whisked away by the shore and the Philippine countryside. Tucked away within the tropical trees of Cagraray Island, Misibis Bay Resort is a quiet destination. The isolated beach rounding out the edges of the resort are hardly packed for this reason, as most popular beaches in the Philippines are. Even the calm waters, kept at a just-right temperature by the nearby Mayon Volcano, invite you to come out and lose yourself—metaphorically speaking, please. There are lifeguards and safety measures in place as well.
The accommodation of the resort is split into three different kinds of rooms—standard, deluxe, and villa—at different areas of the resort, namely beach and seaside, poolside, and garden view. All rooms start off with two adult-sized beds; rooms higher up the price range will have dining areas and enclosed bathroom spaces. There are special rates for large groups, too. An enclosed bathroom space and dining area are what you’ll get in the higher packages.
We stayed in the standard seaside view room and found it spacious and more than comfortable enough for a mid-week getaway. There’s no desk to work at, so it emphasized that our business can be done elsewhere, while the room was all for rest and relaxation.

What to Do at Misibis Bay Resort
Getting into the different water sports and activities at Misibis Bay Resort is one way of immersing yourself in the vacation, or passing the time between family or company events. For the more extreme crowd, there’s jet skiing (P2,688/maximum two persons for 30 minutes), wakeboarding (P2,698/person for 30 minutes), and banana boat riding (P3,188/maximum five persons for 15 minutes) are among the highlights of motorized activities.
For the more reserved vacationer, however, you can also dip your toe in kayaking (P388/person for 30 minutes), Hobie cat sailing (P2,488/max. four persons), snorkeling (P688/person for 30 minutes), and the Albay Cruise (P988/person for one hour).
If you’re not a big spender and are more than satisfied with basic physical activities to keep you pumped throughout the day, there are also three different pools—lagoon pool, infinity pool, and kiddie pool—and a fitness center at the resort.
Alternatively, you can skip all the physical outings and instead head straight to getting pampered at the spa and salon. We’ll lie and tell everyone you went to hit the gym, we promise.

Where to Eat at Misibis Bay Resort
For dining, Misibis Bay Resort has the Spice Market, which is open from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. You can take your adventurous spirit here as well and dive into the famed Bicolano fiery flavor profile, such as what you’ll find in their signature, undefeated Bicol Express. Not all of us are born challengers though, so don’t worry, there are also classic international comfort-food options, such as burgers, pizza, and chicken waiting in the wings to save you.
There’s also the Sula Bar, open until 11 p.m. right beside the 24-hour infinity pool. Cocktails by the pool. We need not say more.
How to Get to Misibis Bay Resort
You can take a flight from Manila to Legazpi City, which is about an hour’s drive away from Misibis Bay Resort. AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines have daily flights from Manila to Legazpi City.
