(SPOT.ph) El Nido, one of the many tourist destinations on one of the world's best islands (a.k.a. Palawan), is known for its islands and sandbars, snorkeling and diving spots, and white-sand beaches perfect for lounging around. But if you're looking for a different kind of adventure, this municipality in northern Palawan also has a number of land-based activities.

Lio Tourism Estate in Barangay Villa Libertad is bound by a stunning beach on one side and picturesque mountains on the other. This means trekkers and hikers can have more than their fair share of adrenaline-filled days. Just head to Kalye Artisano, which is within walking distance from Lio's handful of resorts, and ask about their outdoor adventure packages.

You have the option to go up a hill while being pulled by a karo that's connected to a carabao, or even hop on the back of this hardworking animal. Locals say that it's also a good exercise for them. You can also traverse a 10-minute forest trail or amp it up with a 45-minute hike on the eco-trail. There's another trail that leads to Nagkalit-kalit Falls, but this one takes about 90 minutes, so better be ready. If you're looking for a more relaxing afternoon, you can also try kayaking by the mangroves.
