Travel is essential to keeping one’s mental peace stable, but long-haul trips could ironically even add unnecessary stress to one’s life. Sometimes the shorter road is the way to go!

On our recent stay at Batangas beach resort Vivere Azure, it became clear as sun-shining day that one need not travel that far to get lost in nature. Located less than a couple hours away from the city, the beachside villa is practically hidden within the rich greenery of the Anilao hillside. The resort also faces west towards the sunset and the waters between Batangas and Balayan bays, which were previously declared a marine sanctuary because of all the aquatic wildlife found there. It truly never ceases to amaze how many peaceful havens can be found so close to the city.

Here’s what you need to know about this Anilao, Batangas resort:

The resort has a selection of nine premiere suites located in the main area closer to the beachfront. These rooms, including the Presidential Suite, are more rustic in design as they’re part of the residence that was once the private resthouse of the resort owners. Meanwhile, a short uphill climb from the resort’s entrance will bring you to the three casas at the villa, which are more modern in design.

We stayed at Casa Isabella, a suite with a king-sized bed, a day bed, a kitchen area, a small dining area, and a balcony. While no two rooms are exactly alike, each of the casas at the villa share in their spaciousness and a gorgeous view of the horizon. Being further from the beach and restaurant, these rooms are also more private. Fitting for a couple’s getaway, perhaps?

Outside of one’s resting quarters, you’ll find that the resort is equally as tranquil. You could sit on a wooden bench and listen as the birds and wind weave through the trees, as if you were in the middle of a Dolby Atmos surround sound advertisement, or you can move over to the beachfront and just gaze at the still water. The beach isn’t particularly busy, except for maybe a few fishermen lining the shore.

What to Do

Living up to its name, Vivere Azure prominently features swimming and underwater life as its main pasttime. The resort has an infinity pool and a beach, all one could need for a well-deserved break. Be sure to take a dive as this resort has an excellent snorkeling spot due to the bountiful marine life inclusive of vibrantly colored fish, coral gardens, giant clams, and—if you’re so lucky—the occassional turtles and dolphins.

Surrounding the pool area are a few meditation huts and the Coco Bar, all of which similarly face the sea. Basically, the setup is telling you to hit the pause button on life for a second and bask in the views or take a dip in the pool.

If you are more the adventurous, can’t-sit-still type though, you could also avail of the resort’s island hopping experience, where you can visit the different reefs of Batangas and take part in snorkeling around their waters too.

Where to Eat

The resort’s dining area Cenare is found right at the entrance to the beach, so you already know you’re getting the best view around for all your meals. Be prepared that the serving sizes are huge, like almost an American meal’s worth of food to consume. Though, it’s rather fitting due to the resort’s rejuvenating atmosphere making it the perfect place to fall into a food coma.

Their must-tries are mostly made up of meat entrees like the Pork Belly Special (P550), which is deep fried and served with honey-infused bagoong, Rosemary Chicken (P570), and the classic Pork Sisig (P510). Their sandwiches also hit the right spot between a full-blown meal and easy-to-eat finger food, especially the Azure Burger (P550).

For cocktails, you have a selection of stunning spirits to sip on with the sunset in sight. You can choose between red and white sangrias, a strawberry margarita, a classic mojito, and Azure’s signature Piña Colada—any of these drinks for P320.
