(SPOT.ph) In May 2022, Chinese food enthusiasts and most probably everyone's Chinese tito and tita probably mourned the closure of the Chinatown favorite Comida China de Manila in Pasig. This oldie but goodie had been the go-to resto of many whenever the craving for good ol' Cantonese eats hit. But it wasn't long before news of a possible comeback started floating around. And fast forward to this week, the moment we've been waiting for finally arrived: Comida China de Manila has returned, this time at the ground floor of S&R Libis, along E. Rodriguez Avenue.

The new branch is open from Mondays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Donning the familiar red and brown motif, typical to many Chinese restaurants, Comida China de Manila's Libis outpost brings comfort to many who have been craving a taste of what is dubbed as one of the OG Cantonese eats in the Metro. Just note that the new restaurant is smaller, with only about 50 seats open to the public. Plus, there doesn't seem to be areas for private functions and events.

As for the food, one can expect the return of their favorite Binondo fare, albeit in smaller servings; there appears to be limited kitchen space available at the new location. Nonetheless, we're excited to have our favorite Comida China de Manila eats back finally. We can't wait to sink our teeth into their best-selling Fried Shrimp Balls (P965), Cold Cuts Platter (P448), Lumpiang Shanghai (P395), and Yang Chow Fried Rice (P330).

Formerly known as Panciteria San Jacinto before changing its name to its current moniker, the restaurant's been a go-to for members of the Filipino-Chinese community, be it for casual everyday meals or for grander celebrations. The new branch is currently under new management with a third-generation family member of the original owners at the helm.
