(SPOT.ph) In the Philippines, "Food for the Gods" is at its peak during the holiday season. It's cultural tradition to have this sweet, dense, chewy dessert—made with a combination of dates, nuts, butter, sugar, spice, and everything nice—right in the dessert section of Noche Buena or Media Noche. If you're buying for your own table's upcoming festivities or as Christmas gifts, here are the different places you can get them from in Metro Manila.

These are the shops for your Food for the Gods fix:
Cipriano Sans Rival
Cipriano Sans Rival is known for its sans rival—obviously, as the name suggests. This dessert shop's bestsellers list goes beyond that, and it includes Food for the Gods (P300/eight pieces, P650/16 pieces, and P1,050/28 pieces). If you like your Christmas staple moist and chewy, Cipriano Sansrival achieves this consistency and then adds an extra special touch by using dark dates soaked in rum and walnuts tossed in butter. This item used to be a seasonal product but because of its popularity, is now a permanent item that's available all year round.
Cipriano Sans Rival is at 39 Firefly Rd Valle Verde 6, Pasig City, Metro Manila. For orders, visit Cipriano Sans Rival's website.
Lorenzo's Food for the Gods
Lisa Lorenzo, the genius behind these date bars, uses an heirloom recipe of her mom's that has been in their family for more than 50 years. The recipe yields a slightly crunchy texture, the burnt taste of molasses, slight chewiness from the dates, and of course, the potent buttery notes.
We're glad that what once was a hidden gem—hidden specifically amongst those living within a certain prestigious private subdivision—Lorenzo's Food for the Gods's Food for the Gods (P500/12 bars, P950, 25 bars, and P1,900/50 bars) is now one of the most sought-out after shops for this dessert.
Lorenzo's Food for the Gods is inside Magallanes Village, Makati City. For orders, check out Lisa Lorenzo (@food4thegods) on Instagram.
Crukitchen
is a cakes and pastries supplier in Metro Manila that started way back in 2007, and since the beginning, the shop has always been known for its Food for the Gods (P295/10 pieces, P440/15 pieces, P650/24 pieces, and P880/32 pieces). Their recipe uses Iranian dates, California walnuts, and Demerara sugar that make these delightful individually wrapped bars one of the best.
Crukitchen has branches in Mandaluyong City, Pasig City, Makati City, and Parañaque City. For orders, check out Crukitchen's website.
Leonisa's Kitchen
Leonisa's Kitchen, a home bakery business, has Food for the Fods (P490/12 pieces and P590/16 pieces) among its wide selection of Instagrammable cakes and pastries. Although it is plain from the top—almost like a butterscotch brownie, the bakery's version of the Christmas bars is dense, buttery chewy, and generously packed with dates and walnuts.
For orders, you can send a message to Leonisa's Kitchen's Facebook page.
Café Mary Grace
Café Mary Grace's Food for the Gods (P74/piece, P278/four pieces, and P554/eight pieces) keeps it straightforward with the use of walnuts and dates that stud the bars.
