The Viral Tornado Omelette Gives Yabu's Newest Dish a Twirly Upgrade

(SPOT.ph) For a relatively brief period during the pandemic, everyone was obsessed with all of the humble egg's limitless #foodporn possibilities. Among those viral dishes were tornado omelets, a Korean-inspired recipe where a mountain of rice is topped with a swirled inverted omelet that resembles, well, a tornado.

We completely understand the frustrations that come along with recreating it on your own, as it does require some level of cooking skills. So for those who want to try the dish and see what the hype is all about, great news: Yabu just launched a Tornado Omelet Curry.

If you've ever explored Yabu's menu beyond its crowd-favorite katsudon, then you'd already know their menu includes Japanese curries—that is, dishes with your choice of meat, rice, a pool of sweet-peppery Japanese curry sauce, and refillable sides. For their newest curry dish, the rice comes topped with a tornado-style omelet that's twirled on the pan as it cooks, contributing to the topsy-turvy tornado look of the egg.

Yabu's new Tornado Omelet Curry costs P490, and you have the choice between picking Rosu (tenderloin) or Chicken Katsu for your main protein. This already comes with refillable sides of shredded cabbage (make sure to add in the sesame salad dressing), miso soup, and sliced tropical fruits.

The Tornado Omelet Curry is available in all Yabu branches and was launched in line with the opening of the 18th and 19th Yabu branches at SM Grand Central in Caloocan and SM Fairview in Quezon City, respectively. These new stores also serve the Hokkaido Soft Cream that Yabu's sibling brand Kiwami is known for.

Yabu is a tonkatsu restaurant that opened in 2011, helmed by Chef Kazuya Takeda of Tonkatsu Takeshin—a.k.a. one of the best tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo. They’ve consistently made it to our Top 10 Katsu lists over the years, and they continue to fry up some of the best breaded meat cutlets to this day.
