The Obsession Is Real: Pizza Got a Whole Lotta Love on GrabFood
And cake, too!
(SPOT.ph) The ongoing quarantine's had many of us staying at home on most days, but that hasn't stopped us from ordering from restaurants via food delivery. For this reason, delivery apps like Grab—specifically their food-delivery leg GrabFood—are a godsend. The app recently released their food trends report 2020/2021 in collaboration with global measurement and data analytics company Nielsen IQ, and there are a couple of insights that will have you going hashtag-#relate.
Check out these cool tidbits from the GrabFood Food Trends Report:
Food delivery definitely went up in 2020, with 34% of meals in the Philippines being ordered via takeout, delivery, or dine-in—and three out of 10 of those non-home cooked meals were ordered via food delivery. The popularity of food delivery made for great news for F&B businesses as well, as those that joined food delivery platforms reported 61% growth in total sales, even with dine-in restrictions. Within GrabFood in particular, the number of monthly active F&B merchants increased by 60%.
Most orders on the app were made for dinner, lunch, and merienda, though basket size (the number of items in a single purchase) for breakfast orders grew by 35% in 2020. The average Filipino customer also tried two to three different restaurants in a month, with most of them taking into account aspects like the variety of food and value for money.
Wondering which specifically which items turn out to be well-loved on the app? Pizza is one, as it was searched a whopping 6 million times on GrabFood in 2020! In case you find yourself doing just that for lunch today, some of our favorite pizzas in Manila come from Amare La Cucina, Francesco's Kitchen, Salvatore Cuomo & Bar, and Wildflour Italian—all of which conveniently happen to be on the app.
Cake is another food genre that got a lot of love on GrabFood, as cake orders grew 2.6 times in 2020 compared to 2019! Got the hankering for a sweet treat this weekend? You can get some of our favorite cakes on the app as well—including Big Al's Decadent Chocolate Cake, Wildflour's Carrot Cake, and Nono's Blueberry Cheesecake.
