Cheaper Flights Ahead as Fuel Surcharge Goes Down Further in January

(SPOT.ph) Travelers can expect cheaper flights at the start of the new year as the Civil Aeronautics Board projects even lower fuel surcharges in January with the continuous drop in jet fuel prices.

The fuel surcharge rate this January for domestic and international flights is set to go down to Level 7 from Level 8 in December and November and Level 9 in October, CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla said.

"Itong Disyembre, ang surcharge natin nasa Level 8. Bababa pa tayo ng Level 7. Magiging Level 7 sa January 1. Malaking bagay din yan sa ating riding public," Arcilla said in a televised public briefing on Tuesday, December 20.

How much will fuel surcharge go down for flights?

Under Level 7, the applicable fuel surcharge rate ranges from P219 to P739 for domestic flights, and from P722.71 to P5,373.69 for international flights, depending on the distance.

Currently, the fuel surcharge rate ranges from P253 to P787 for domestic flights, and from P835.05 to P6,208.98 for international flights.

"Sana ay magpatuloy although volatile ang presyo sa pandaigdigang merkado. Hindi ma-predict kaya meron tayong ganitong taas-baba. Pero sa panahon ng Kapaskuhan, ang trend ay pababa so makakatulong nang malaki," Arcilla said.

The lowering of the fuel surcharge rates came as several countries like Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan lifted travel restrictions to Filipinos. Hong Kong has also recently loosened its COVID-19 curbs to incoming travelers.
