(SPOT.ph) A magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Northern Luzon on the morning of Wednesday, July 27. As citizens brace for aftershocks, initial reports covered the tremors that predominantly hit the Province of Abra and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur, with the Vigan Cathedral and notable heritage houses being among those heavily damaged by the earthquake.
The provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, and the Mountain Province have also been greatly affected the earthquake and subsequent landslides, as a number of roads and highways to and from the provinces have been closed off indefinitely. The DPWH-Cordillera Administrative Region announced the closures of four major highways in the region.
Namely, the Kennon Road, Benguet-Vizcaya Road, Baguio-Bua-Itogon Road have been closed to traffic, while Marcos Highway has only one lane passable.

The Mountain Province DRRM Office has announced that some roads along the Halsema Highway (also known as the Benguet-Mountain Province Road), which travels across the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, and Mountain Province, have been closed due to a landslide that hit the area.
Additionally, the Public Information Office of Tuba has confirmed that the Naguilian Road (or Quirino Highway), which connects Baguio to Bauang, La Union, is still passable.
The guests and residents of Baguio Country Club were hit by a significant shock from the temblor and had to evacuate the building, as seen in this video posted by fashion designer Francis Libiran. Libirian was at the country club for the wedding of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, which took place in Baguio the night before the quake.
The Public Information Office of Baguio City has yet to announce any major damages caused by the strong earthquake.
