(SPOT.ph) After two years of lockdowns and enforced isolation, 2022's holiday season is sure to be the busiest we've had in quite some time. We're foreseeing many family gatherings and even more trips to malls and bazaars to shop for gifts for said family members. If you're like us, you most likely have a bunch of younger relatives you need to buy quality gifts for to prove you're the coolest relative of them all.

Don't worry; it's relatively easier to buy Christmas gifts for kids these days. Being the "touch screen generation," they don't so much play with toys, as they do with apps on their gadgets. You can bet a good chunk of the younger population wants to be content creators when they grow up too, specifically of the gaming variety. This brings us to the good ol' reliable type of present: video games. And what console has the most top-quality kid-friendly games? The Nintendo Switch, which is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

These are the top 10 Nintendo Switch best-selling video games:

Nintendo recently released official sales info on their video game titles, listing up their top 10 best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch. Note that we’re talking strictly Nintendo Switch-exclusive titles here, so not games that have had multi-platform launches. The list as of September 2022 goes as follows:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 48.41 million pcs.
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 40.17 million pcs.
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 29.53 million pcs.
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 27.79 million pcs.
  5. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield – combined total of 25.37 million pcs.
  6. Super Mario Odyssey – 24.40 million pcs.
  7. Super Mario Party – 18.35 million pcs.
  8. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl – combined total of 14.92 million pcs.

As things stand, the list isn’t too surprising. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped about the same time as the Nintendo Switch itself launched, so practically everyone had it as their first Switch game. The same goes for Breath of the Wild, although that title being recognized as Game of the Year (and in general, as one of the greatest video games of all time) likely helped its staying power.

As for Pokémon and Animal Crossing, two of Nintendo’s other big hitters, it’s not shocking to see them take over this list. There was a great wave of casual gamers who turned into perfectionist freaks after they bought Animal Crossing over the pandemic. You could also likewise count on Pokemon fans to check out how their franchise has evolved with every new console, even if they are essentially just remakes of older games.

We could see 2022 new releases Splatoon 3, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land soon taking over this list, as they’ve also had massive launches on the console (yes, this is a hint to get them for your Switch too). As for upcoming releases, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will undoubtedly be a hit as all other Pokémon games before it, as will Breath of the Wild’s direct sequel Tears of the Kingdom. There is simply no stopping the Nintendo gravy train.
