Japan Is Building a Theme Park Inspired by the Pokemon Slowpoke

Rollercoasters and theme parks? Forget about it. Japan is building a "Slowpoke Park" for the lazy introverts out there, and we're going to be the first to sign up.

Here's what to expect at Japan's Slowpoke Park:

Sometime in mid-2023, Kagawa prefecture will welcome visitors to its lazy park, where you can stroll, sit, observe, and essentially spend your day doing nothing. Sounds glorious. The park will target kids, but we wouldn't be surprised if we found adults lounging about and indulging in good 'ole procrastination.

If the title of the park sounded familiar, that's because it is. Slowpoke Park is named after the pink Pokemon notorious for being lazy. Slowpoke is a running gag in the anime, and he's been unofficially adopted by the Kagawa prefecture as its mascot.

Slowpoke's Japanese name is "Yadon," which sounds like udon, the traditional dish of the prefecture. Slowpoke was even elected as the prefectural governor (on April Fool's Day), and the Pokemon's image can be found on buses, manhole covers, and about everything else in Kagawa.

So if you're ever in the area in mid-2023, drop by Kagawa prefecture. You might just find a Pokemon waiting for you at this park.
