(SPOT.ph) It's been a hot minute since we got the chance to visit our favorite East-meets-West destination, Hong Kong. Ever since the pandemic, the region has had strict quarantine protocols and has been mostly closed to tourists. But since late last year, the HK government has dropped the RT-PCR testing requirement for inbound travelers which had globetrotters excited to visit the spot again. But before you start booking your tickets, you might want to hear about the Hong Kong government's plan to give away 500,000 free airline tickets to the island, along with tons of freebies, vouchers, and discounts to city-wide attractions this year.

Here's what we know about Hong Kong's latest free air ticket giveaway and other tourism initiatives:
Starting on March 1, be on the lookout for the mechanics and promos on how you could get your hands on these tickets by following the social media pages and websites of Hong Kong carriers such as Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airlines.
As announced in the launch of "Hello Hong Kong," a.k.a. the region's overarching tourism campaign on February 2, officials of the island revealed that over half a million free airline tickets to Hong Kong will be given away to tourists of all nationalities this year. The free air tickets will be distributed over six months, starting March 1 and lasting until September
The free tickets to Hong Kong will be released by batch following the schedule below:
- March - Southeast Asia
- April - China
- May - Northeast Asia and other countries
About three-quarters of the tickets will be given away to Asian visitors. Not to be left out, an additional 160,000 tickets will also be up for grabs specifically for Hong Kong residents to travel around Asia.
Aside from the free air travel tickets, Hong Kong visitors will also be eligible to get an array of welcome offers from over 16,000 outlets across the city. Among these are at least one million "Hong Kong Goodies"—visitor consumption vouchers that cover complimentary welcome drinks at participating bars, restaurants, and hotels or a cash voucher to be redeemed in the transportation, culinary and retail sectors, as well as attractions.
TBH, we're just excited to travel and see Hong Kong once again after the pandemic. But it also helps that some of the more famous attractions and events are also making a comeback this year, including the Hong Kong Marathon, the Clockenflap Music Festival, Art Basel, the Museum Summit 2023, Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, and the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival.
