(SPOT.ph) With pristine white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery, Camotes Islands in Cebu offers a stunning backdrop for relaxation and adventure—and now it's about to be a lot more accessible to locals and tourists.

Bus travel will soon be possible with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s latest initiative to provide a direct route from Cebu City to Camotes Islands. This starts next Thursday on May 4.

Four units of modern buses are currently being deployed to the tropical paradise that is the Camotes Group of Islands, which comprises three major islands and one islet. This project is part of the transportation board's project on "experimental routes," which has been around since April 20.

New Bus Route from Cebu City to Camotes Islands

According to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LFTRB) Region 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr., this bus trip to Camotes Islands will become permanent and open to interested transport companies by May 4. This route is planned as part of Cebu’s Local Public Transport Route Plan.

Philippine News Agency reported that the four experimental bus units originating from the Cebu South Bus Terminal will no longer pass through Danao Seaport, where the land transportation will board a Roll-on, Roll-off (RoRo) vessel to Poro Island. Instead, the route will take the Liloan Port, which is closer to the capital.

As of writing, locals and tourists from mainland Cebu can get to Camotes Islands by taking a ferry from Danao Port or from Pier 1 in Cebu City.

Cebu’s LPTRP is currently being finalized, which is set to cover 138 routes including Cebu City to Camotes Islands. It’s expected to boost tourism and economic activity in Cebu’s most loved islands.
