Universal Studio Japan's Donkey Kong-Themed Land Opens Soon

This year alone, we're already anticipating a new port of call in Tokyo Disney Sea Resort, a new Immersive Theme Park in Odaiba, and many other new attractions in the Land of the Rising Sun. If there's a year to visit Japan, 2024 is it. As if we needed another reason to head there, we just got word that a new area in Universal Studios Japan is also expected to open soon. Thrill-seeking travel bugs, get ready because Donkey Kong Country is opening at Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan soon.

Here's what we know about Universal Studios Japan's Donkey Kong Country:

Slated to open in the Spring of 2024, a.k.a., around March to May, the new area, complete with its own rides, restaurants, and shops, will be at the video game-themed Super Nintendo World of Universal Studios Japan.

A Universal Studios Japan website teaser reads, "Step foot into an unknown, wild space with lush greenery. In this jungle where Donkey Kong and his friends live, you can hop on a mine cart from The Golden Temple for a thrilling ride through the mines, challenge yourself at a play experience using your whole body, and have loads of other wild adventures!"

The space features a main ride called Mine Cart Madness, a rollercoaster set around a towering temple deep in the jungle where you will face off against the big boss, Tiki Kong. This will be the area's first large-scale rollercoaster.

Aside from Mine Cart Madness, there will also be new uses for the Power-Up bands specific to Donkey Kong Country, including new designs for the bands featuring Donkey and Didi Kong. There will also be a host of Donkey Kong Country-exclusive merchandise and food items up for grabs in the new restaurants and shops set to open within the new space.

Reports suggest that the opening of Donkey Kong Country will increase the space covered by Super Nintendo World in USJ by 1.7 times its original.

How to access Donkey Kong Country in Universal Studios Japan:

To enter Donkey Kong Country, one must go through the main entrance for Super Nintendo World. As such, an area-timed entry ticket (whether an advanced booking or standby entry) is required. You can get these tickets either before entering the park or on the day of your visit through the Universal Studios Japan app or at an in-park ticket kiosk.
