(SPOT.ph) We're less than a month away from the opening night of the Manila leg of The Sound of Music's international tour. If you're a big fan of Philippine theater, you'll be glad to know that Filipino artists Karylle Tatlonghari and Markki Stroem are joining the cast for the production's local season. Tatlonghari will be playing the role of Baroness Elsa von Schraeder, while Stroem will be playing the role of Rolf.
Two Filipino Artists Join the Cast of The Sound of Music
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Karylle and Markki into the company. Having done many shows in Manila over the years with stars like Lea Salonga in Cinderella, Filipinos are known around the world over for their spectacular talents, so when the opportunity for us to cast two roles out of the Philippines, how could we say no? We are so excited to see them both step into these iconic roles. We have so much confidence in their abilities as performers and we are really looking forward for Filipino audiences to come and see them on stage," Broadway Asia co-founder and The Sound of Music producer Marc Routh said in a statement.
Tatlonghari was last seen in the Repertory Philippines production of Carousel, which was directed by Toff De Venecia; while Stroem was in the August 2022 rerun of Mula sa Buwan, which was directed and co-written by Pat Valera.
The two artists will be joining Jill-Christine Wiley as Maria Rainer, Trevor Martin as Captain von Trapp, Lauren Kidwell as Mother Abbess, and Lauren O’Brien as Liesl.
The Sound of Music international tour is also making stops in India, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Another international production of The Sound of Music was staged at The Theatre at Solaire Resort in Parañaque City in 2017.
The Sound of Music runs from March 7 to 26 at Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Hippodrimo Street, Circuit Makati, Makati City. Tickets are available through Ticketworld.
