Filipino-Japanese Chef Yuichi Ito Makes it to List of World's Best Pizza Chefs

(SPOT.ph) It's been quite the year for Crosta Pizzeria and head chef Yuichi Abellare Ito. After Crosta was named among the top pizzerias in Asia-Pacific as well as the world (with special mention for their fresh cherry- and culatello-topped pizza), they once again gain global recognition as Ito is helmed among the top pizzaiolo in the world in The Best Chef Awards' Best Pizza leg.

Here's the deal on Chef Yuichi Ito on the Best Chef Awards:

International awarding body The Best Chef Awards released their 2023 The Best Pizza list on September 24. Listed among the 100—specifically, in the 47th spot, among other pizzaiolo from Italy and other parts of the world—is Crosta's own Chef Yuichi Abellare Ito! That's one impressive feat from the young Japanese-Filipino chef, who's worked the kitchen of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo’s multiawarded Pizza Bar on 38th and has since brought his signature playfulness to Crosta here in the Philippines.

Led by Director Antonio Ruotolo, The Best Pizza list is a ranked subcategory of The Best Chef Awards that aims to "make visible and recognize" some of the "best pizza chefs [slash] pizzaiolos in the world by identifying them and their establishments." At the top spots are Italian chefs Franco Pepe, Francesco Martucci, and Gabriele Bonci.

These results, Ruotolo says in their website, "[are] mainly influenced by the opinions of the pizzaiolos, who this year outnumbered the professional voters"—no one knows the craft like fellow pizza makers after all. "Who knows this world better than they do? Great professionals who know their job and respect each other. Collaborating with them has been a great pleasure. I’m truly grateful!” 

The Best Chef Awards was founded by Polish neuroscientist Joanna Slusarczyk and Italian gastronomist Cristian Gadau in 2015.
