(SPOT.ph) Perfection doesn't happen overnight. It takes years of experience to master a skill, be it as grand as building Rome or creating the perfect bowl of ramen. And while Ramen Nagi has got their own ramen skills down pat, what with the chef's over-more-than-a-decade worth of experience—resulting in bowls of chewy noodles, swimming in comforting broth, and topped with a harmonious medley of aromartics and meats—the ramen restaurant proves that they can apply the same discipline, the same meticulousness, the same attention-to-detail with their new concept restaurant Nagi Sushi.

Ramen Nagi ventures into the world of fresh seafood with new sushi restaurant, Nagi Sushi:

Not to brag about numbers, but Nagi Sushi's head chef Chef Oshikiri has over three decades of experience in Japanese cuisine, which includes working with sushi. Chef Oshikiri's standards for fresh seafood comes from his experience working at the Tsukiji fish market, which is considered to be the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world. So if you're the type to be impressed with a long list of credentials, you can expect nothing short of extraordinary at the first-ever Nagi Sushi in the Philippines.

The restaurant's golden standards for choosing the fish used for their sushi relies on two things: freshness and fat content. And with high-quality fish, the sushi comes into completion with the sushi rice and nori sourced all the way from the differerent prefectures in Japan.

What's on the Nagi Sushi menu:

There are two sushi categories on the Nagi Sushi menu which are nigiri and temaki. For the unititated, nigiri has a simpler approach of combining sushi rice with a slice of, typically, raw fish, while temaki is a hand-rolled sushi that uses a sheet of seaweed like a cone, and wraps it around sushi rice and filling.

Nagi Sushi keeps it simple with their nigiri menu and limits it by using bluefin tuna, unagi, salmon, yellowtail, and bonito. For the bluefin and salmon selection, they have the Chutoro Hon Maguro Nigiri (P280/piece) which uses a fatty bluefin tuna; Aburi Chutori Hon Maguro Nigiri (P280/piece) which uses flame-seared bluefin tuna; Akami Hon Maguro Nigiri (P200/piece) which uses a leaner bluefin tuna; Salmon Nigiri (P180/piece), which tops the rice with raw salmon; Otoro Salmon Nigiri (P200/piece), which uses fatty salmon; and Aburi Otoro Salmon Nigiri (P200/piece), which sears the salmon with flame. The one-offs are the Unagi Nigiri (P180) which uses glazed eel, Waray Aki Katsuo Nigiri (P180/piece) which uses straw-flamed bonito fish, and the Hamachi Nigiri (P200/piece) which uses yellowtail.

What to try at Nagi Sushi

Out of all the Nagi Sushi items, you can have the best of both worlds—of both Ramen Nagi and Nagi Sushi, with the restaurant's premium sets that have a bit of everything. In our book, Nagi Sushi's set meals are the most reasonably priced as compared to buying all the items ala carte.

If you're not planning to dine in with a large group, the best spot to grab a chair is at the sushi counter, found on the right side of the restaurant. It’s a whole experience, seeing the sushi being prepared before it makes a 10/10 landing into your mouth.
